World Scholar’s Cup 2019 Hong Kong Round

The Centre of Gifted Education sent students to participate in the "World Scholar's Cup" for the second year and yielded fruitful results in the preliminary round of the international academic competition.

In the regional round of Hong Kong, one of the most competitive rounds among all participating regions that accommodates nearly 500 participants for the 2019 entry, our teams stood out from the fierce competition, of which many are from top international schools. One of our junior teams was ranked the 5th in both Overall Team and Scholar’s Bowl and two members took the 1st place in History and Special Area respectively. All students had made themselves qualified to enter the Global Round in Beijing, Hague and Sydney. If the wind is at our back, our talented young scholars may have the chance to visit Yale University again to fight for the championship.

Members of the Centre got into the final round Tournament of Champion in Yale University, USA last November. Carrying through the momentum gained, they returned to the game and took initiative to prepare for it on their own this year. The participating number of our students had expanded to 18 to form six teams of three members each, with both junior and senior grade students. Old and new members are able to reflect on their progress made last year and set goals for learning more. They are highly motivated to work independently to strive for excellence.

"World Scholar's Cup" is an academic challenge for young scholars from all over the world. It was introduced to our school last year to enrich students’ exposure in cross-subject knowledge and understand the importance of self-directed learning. Every year, students from over 50 countries will compete in four events, Collaborative Writing, Team Debate, Scholar’s Challenge and Scholar’s Bowl, under the six areas in Science, Literature, Arts and Music, Humanities, History and Social Studies.
