Curriculum Objectives
Music is an important medium for expression and communication. Through active participation in listening, performing and creating, students apply musical knowledge and skills. They exercise creativity, imagination, aesthetic sensitivity and critical thinking skills to express their feelings for music. This meaningful learning process and the music experience will develop students’ confidence, generic skills, positive values and attitudes.
In the lesson, students will
- Develop music ideas and acquire creating skills, together with performing and listening, to cultivate creativity and imagination.
- Develop performing skills to experience and express music.
- Comprehend, respond to and appreciate music so as to nurture aesthetic sensitivity and awareness.
- Understand the functions of music and the relationship between music and emotions.
Curriculum Framework
Grade One
Students are learning basic theory in music lesson including articulation, dynamic markings, mood, tempo, time signature, note notation. They will learn about Chinese and Western instruments, rhythmic pattern, basic compositional skills, music structure, phrases, singing posture and Solfege (with hand sign).
Grade Two
Students are learning about dotted-note rhythm, percussion instruments, repetition, improvisations, musical form, musical terms and classical music and composers. They will develop more in melodic composition and singing technique.
Grade Three
Students are learning about more Chinese and Western orchestral instruments. They will also learn about music cadence and try to analyze songs. Baroque and Romantic music and composers will be introduced to students to grow a more profound understanding to music. Melodic contour and composition, and singing technique will be further developed with students.
Grade Four
Students are learning about compound time and more details about Chinese and orchestral instruments. They will also learn about imitation, repetition and sequence, and song form. Musical and ensemble music will be introduced to students. They will know more characteristics of Romantic music and composers and more advanced skill on melody composing and singing.
Grade Five
Students are learning about triplet and syncopation. Pentatonic scale will be introduced with cipher notation, Chinese music and instruments, and music technology. They will learn about the characteristics of Baroque music and composers, and keep on enhancing their melody composition and singing technique.
Grade Six
Students are learning about the texture of music, chords and triads. They will have more knowledge about musicals, Western opera and Chinese opera. They will develop more about the characteristics of Baroque music and composers, and keep on enriching their melody composition and singing technique.
Assessment
Formative Assessment
Formative assessment will be used to assess students’ learning performance. Report card grades will be given according to the performance of listening, creating and performing. Effort grades will be given according to class performance and worksheet quality.
Summative Assessment
Summative assessment is not applicable.
Homework Policy
All worksheets are expected to be finished and done during lessons. Concert reports will be assign once a year. Students are encouraged to attend classical concert at least once a year.
Worksheets and concert reports are marked and the grades go under Effort in report cards.

Local Competitions
Other than overseas competitions, our school choirs are also very active in local competitions.
The Senior Choir won the First Place in three competitions in the 71st Hong Kong Music Festival:
- Foreign Language, Boys and/or Girls Senior group
- Church Music in Foreign Language (Age 13 or under)
- Church Music in Chinese (Age 13 or under)
The Junior Choir also won the Third Place in the 71st Hong Kong Music Festival, Chinese Church Music (Age 9 or under).
