Triumph in Discourse: Champions of the 40th Sing Tao Inter-school Debating Competition
Today (May 7) at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium, the HKBUAS English Debating Team’s relentless efforts culminated in a triumphant victory. We celebrated the Grand Final of the 40th Sing Tao Inter-school Debating Competition, crowning our team champions in the English Section!
Since last November, our English Debating Team has embarked on a remarkable journey of research, scriptwriting, and rehearsals. The motion for this round was - “The public healthcare reform on fees and charges will promote the effective use of Hong Kong’s healthcare resources.” Advocating for the affirmative side against St. Paul’s College, we showcased exceptional performance by thorough preparation, flawless on-site performance, combined with strong evidence and a personal touch that impressed both judges and audience. The team demonstrated remarkable commitment and perseverance throughout the journey, navigating various challenges to realise this collective dream that we can now proudly call our own.
Comprising three senior debaters—TANG Hau In, LEE Yan Wah, and LI Mischa Keona—and three junior debaters—TSOI Shing Hin, CHAN Ho Him, and REN Eva Yuwen—the English Debating Team has once again etched its name in our school's history. We progressed through the preliminary rounds, quarter-finals, semi-finals, and ultimately to the Grand Final, competing fiercely for the championship title! For four consecutive years, our school's English Debating Team has demonstrated exceptional talent and determination, winning the championship three times (2022, 2023, and 2025) and proudly securing the 1st runner-up position in 2024. Notably, Hau In was recognized as the Best Debater! Their unwavering commitment to excellence inspires us all.
This year’s achievement is a testament to our team’s dedication and a prestigious chapter in our journey as we look forward to celebrating our school's 20th anniversary next academic year. Witnessing the growth and remarkable progress over the years, both in terms of student accomplishments and A-School advancement, fills us with immense pride and inspiration.
