Riding on the Wave of Debating Victories - The Hong Kong Bar Association Debating Competition 2022

News date

Following the success in the 37th Sing Tao Inter-School Debating Competition, our students further developed their debate repertoire by participating in The Hong Kong Bar Association Debating Competition last Saturday, facing Maryknoll Convent School in the 1st preliminary round. As one of the highest-scoring teams, we have now qualified for the Quarter-finals, which will take place on 25th June 2022, and our opponent will be Munsang College.

The competition organized by The Hong Kong Bar Association focuses on socio-legal issues in Hong Kong and abroad. The debate is adjudicated by honourable judges invited from across the legal profession. Through this competition, it is hoped that our students who are interested in reading law in universities will be granted an opportunity to understand more about the legal systems. This year, a total of 14 schools took part in the competition, including some other prestigious schools such as Diocesan Boys’ School, Diocesan Girls’ School, Marymount Secondary School and St. Joseph’s College.

The motion for the Preliminary Round was This house believes that Hong Kong should legislate to protect the right to be forgotten. This time, a new team of students was put together, including Divya Ng of 11E as the opening speaker, Ethan Ip of 11E as the 1st speaker, and Clement Kwok of 11E, the team’s Captain, as the concluding speaker. The students, despite the new team lineup, have displayed strong team chemistry and continued our winning streak with an impeccable performance.

Let’s hope for more good news to come!
