<<27th Hong Kong Youth Science & Technology Innovation Competition>>

News date

Our Grade 8 grade skipper, CHAN Sum Shun Emunah, won the Second Prize in the 27th Hong Kong Youth Science & Technology Innovation Competition Secondary School Research & Invention - Junior Computer and Information Technology! The competition, organised by the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association, is currently the largest and most representative STEAM event in Hong Kong. The Awards Presentation Ceremony was successfully held in April.

Emunah's research paper is titled "Understanding Logical Reasoning Ability of Large Language Models". Her research affirmed that large language models (LLMs) possess a certain level of logical reasoning ability. Through experiments, she verified that large language models seek similar past questions and respond with answers that are somewhat analogous. Emunah proposed a new set of data to assess their semantic and deductive reasoning aptitudes, in order to evaluate the reasoning ability of large language models more effectively. She hopes that by using this data, the accuracy of tests can be enhanced, reducing the impact of previous training data and making them more suitable for models like GPT-3, GPT-4, and other autoregressive language models.

As one of our school's grade skippers, Emunah, who is currently 11 years old, completed the primary curriculum in just three years before promoting to the A-School Secondary Division at the age of 9. In addition to the previously mentioned award, she has also received multiple STEAM awards, such as the Bronze Award in the "CityUHK Science Patent Challenge 2024-25" and the Honourable Mention in the "2024 S.T. Yau High School Science Award (Asia)". Additionally, she gained admission to the HKU Academy for the Talented at her young age. Emunah's outstanding achievements are a true affirmation of our school's Gifted Education programme. Reflecting on Emunah's words, "Dream and push beyond the possible with a purpose to glorify God", we anticipate her continued academic excellence and her emergence as a role model for her peers, inspiring them to showcase their strengths in various aspects!
