Fourth Win in Sing Tao Inter-school Debating Competition - Advancing to Semi-Finals

News date

Our school defeated St. Paul's College in the quarter-finals of the Sing Tao Inter-school Debating Competition last Saturday with a score of 3 to 0. Our opponents were formidable; however, our three debaters—Hau In Tang, Kendra Lee, and Mischa Li—have proven themselves to be the better team. Hau In continued to stand out among the participants and was awarded the titles of Best Speaker and Best Interrogative Speaker in this round.

The focus of the debate revolved around whether the reinstatement of the measure of "multiple-entry" Individual Visit Endorsements for Shenzhen residents can effectively boost tourism in Hong Kong. As side proposition, our job was to utilise data established in the past and project it into the future. Given that the motion focused on the "can" rather than the "should" aspect of the issue, a significant portion of our arguments had to rely on meticulous phrasing and logical reasoning, as the future remains uncertain.

Long story short, we have made it to the semi-finals for the third year running! Our next showdown is on 23rd March against Wah Yan College Hong Kong. The other two schools which have qualified for the semi-finals are Diocesan's Boys' School and The ISF Academy. We look forward to supporting our debaters as they continue their journey in the Sing Tao Inter-school Debating Competition. Let us rally behind them and make history again.
