Global Citizenship Team
At A-School, we recognize that in our era of globalization, acquiring cross-cultural experiences and enhancing international perspectives are invaluable assets for our students. The Centre for Global Exchange and Learning (CGEL) is dedicated to fulfilling this vision through various enriching programs and initiatives.
Building Local Identity, Global Perspective
Our mission is to foster the development of well-rounded individuals who embrace a "Local Identity, Global Perspective." We provide structured learning experiences outside the classroom, equipping students with the essential qualities for future success. With a holistic approach, we integrate Global Citizenship Education, the CLAPS framework, and Travel Education to foster an environment where students thrive in understanding and engaging with global issues.
Global Citizenship Education - A Pathway to Compassion and Belonging
Our Global Citizenship Education framework emphasizes Global and Cultural Awareness. Students learn to understand significant global events and their relevance to personal and communal life. Promoting intercultural effectiveness prepares our students to interact meaningfully with diverse cultures, religions, and lifestyles. This year, our theme is BELONG, encouraging every member of the A-School community to reflect on what it means to belong and to nurture more profound connections.
● CLAPS: Creativity, Leadership, Activity, Project-based Learning & Service
The CLAPS framework underpins our community outreach initiatives, aiming to empower students to actively engage in service projects that align with the Sustainable Development Goals. We strive to inspire individuals to make a difference through meaningful community service activities. Students will explore local initiatives that promote social responsibility and environmental sustainability, fostering a sense of compassion and commitment to their communities.
o Whole School Approach
A series of initiatives will be launched throughout the year to promote global citizenship and awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals. Knowledge will be transferred to students through reading, interactive games, hands-on stimulation workshops, discussion forums, and more.
o Community Outreach Activities
Students will participate in various school-based outreach programmes, which are year-round projects that include NGO visits, school exchanges, and experience learning. We aim to engage students, promote sustainability, and strengthen our community ties.
Travel Education: Expanding Horizons
Our Travel Education component further enriches the Global Citizenship experience. Students will have opportunities locally, in Mainland and overseas for:
● Exchange Programmes: A Gateway to Global Cultures
Each year, we organize a diverse array of mainland and overseas exchange programmes, sending students to buddy schools worldwide for two weeks to a whole school term. This unique opportunity allows them to immerse themselves in different cultures and lifestyles.
In return, we welcome students from our overseas buddy schools and sister institutions each year. Hosting these students in our homes fosters friendships and deepens our understanding of their cultures. These experiences are integral to our teaching philosophy at A-School, contributing to students’ personal growth and broadening their international outlook.
o Exchange Experience for Everyone (3Es)
Our vision of “Exchange Experience for Everyone” ensures that every student can engage in meaningful exchange experiences throughout their 12 years at A-School. Whether participating in outward and inward exchange programmes, serving as hosts, or becoming buddies to incoming students, students will explore various cultures and gain invaluable knowledge.
o Our exchange programmes are designed with four key objectives:
▪ Promote global understanding and citizenship
▪ Foster a deep appreciation for diverse cultures
▪ Form lasting friendships with exchange students
▪ Enhance communication and language proficiency
● A-School Excursion Week
We nurture “whole person development” for A-School students. We aim to create purposeful and educational excursions and empower them to be spiritually mature, wise and informed, artistic, physically robust, creative, and civic-minded while broadening their horizons and global vision with an emphasis on developing their world knowledge. Categories include:
o Global Immersive
▪ Cultural/Nationalism
o Personal Challenge/Discovery
o Service
▪ CLAPS – Community Outreach Programme
o Pre – College, Study Tour, and Summer Camp
o International Competition

Together, we aim to inspire the next generation of leaders who will positively impact their communities and beyond. Join us in embracing global citizenship as we strive to create a more inclusive and interconnected world.
