A-School Student Awarded First Prize of the Tom Lee Music Scholarship for Piano Solo Final

News date

We are thrilled to share another remarkable achievement of our students in the 76th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival. Following Jacob, a G7 student, Eugene Ho, won another big prize – First Prize of the Tom Lee Music Scholarship for Piano Solo Final (N150F)!  Eugene performed a 20-minute programme of 3 contrasting, virtuosic pieces by Hindemith, Debussy, and Prokofiev. If you closed your eyes, you could hardly believe such mature playing came from a G7 student with small stature. As the First-prize winner, Eugene was awarded a scholarship of $3000.

This award is extremely competitive. Five outstanding pianists were chosen from the preliminary round to enter the finals on March 13, several of whom are enrolled in the junior programme of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), just as Eugene. Eugene outshone other pianists with his stunning own choice piece -- a sonata by Prokofiev -- that almost requires a superhuman to pull off.  Please join us to congratulate Eugene when you see him on campus!
