What a privilege it was for our aspiring engineers and medical students on October 16th!
We were honoured to host an exclusive session with Professor Colm Durkan, Head of the Department of Engineering, and the visionary founder of the Nanoengineering Science group at the University of Cambridge's Nanoscience Centre. We are also deeply thankful to City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) for organizing this invaluable meet and greet opportunity with Professor Durkan.
Our students engaged in a profound discussion with the world-renowned expert who operates at the exciting intersection of nanotechnology, engineering, and medicine. The conversation was filled with incredible insights:
> A Pioneer's Perspective: Professor Durkan, a leading authority in nanoscale research and author of groundbreaking texts like "Current at the Nanoscale" and "Size really does matter," shared his unique viewpoint on how engineering at the nanoscale is revolutionizing targeted drug delivery, medical diagnostics, and regenerative medicine.
> The Power of Fundamentals: True to his mission of making complex topics accessible (as seen in his ebook "Electricity without the tears"), he emphasized that success stems from a deep, intuitive understanding of fundamental principles in physics and mathematics, not just rote learning.
> Authenticity in Admissions: He shared essential guidance on the admission criteria of the Faculty of Engineering at Cambridge with an emphasis on embodying an all-rounded performance of students. Professor Durkan highlighted that the ability to question, create, and critically evaluate information are the human skills that will continue to define success, even in the age of AI. These are qualities that should be instilled in students during their school education.
