Grade 12 (Secondary 6) students studying International Curriculum got Conditional Offers from University of Oxford and other renowned universities

Our first batch of GCE Advanced Level (GCEAL) students made remarkable achievements by receiving conditional offers from the University of Oxford and other world’s top-ranking universities in view of their outstanding academic performances in school and examination results of 2017 International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE).

Currently studying at the upper class of the International Curriculum – GCEAL, Ho Tsz Chun received a conditional offer from the Department of Mathematics, University of Oxford at his age of 15. Admitted to Grade 1 of A-School in 2008, his talent in Mathematics was discovered by teachers and began to take Grade 7 Mathematics course when he was in Grade 4. After undergoing a comprehensive assessment by our teachers and educational psychologist, he was directly promoted from Grade 5 to Grade 7 (Secondary 1) and took Grade 9 and 10 Mathematics courses. Upon completion of the Grade 9 study, he skipped to Grade 11 (Secondary 5). In 2015, 12-year-old Tsz Chun took the Mathematics papers in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) and became the youngest candidate to achieve 5**. Tsz Chun has been awarded in many International Mathematical Olympiad competitions.

At the same time, many GCEAL (Upper) students also got conditional offers from world renowned universities. Among them, Yuen Tin Long who achieved 6A* in the 2017 IGCSE exams has already received seven offers including the Imperial College (Department of Biotechnology), the University of York, the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology; and a conditional offer from the University of Glasgow (Department of Veterinary Medicine & Surgery) was also made to Cheung Tin Lai Geraldine. The rest of them have applied universities in Australia, Canada, UK, etc and are pending for UCAS offer after taking the GCEAL exams in this May and June.

The remarkable achievements are a concerted effort of our students and teachers. A vote of thanks to Ms. Claudia Liu (Director of International Curriculum), Ms. Elaine Yeung (Academic Coordinator (Assessments)), in particular Maths team and teachers of GCEAL classes, as well as the Further Studies team for their curriculum planning, teaching, mentoring and counselling. At present, our GCEAL curriculum offers science and commercial streams. More streams might be introduced in due course subject to the need of students and parents.

Carrying the mission of grooming high-calibre talents for the future, we will put the greatest efforts to educate our students, whether they will take HKDSE or GCEAL examinations. As a “glocalisation” school, we will continue to strengthen the global perspective and local identity of our students through various learning platforms such as exchange programme via our extensive sister school network, overseas study tour, local and overseas excursion, Mainland cultural visit, etc. As always, the teachers, staff and management team of A-School are committed to working the hardest to help our students achieve excellence!
