Universal Robotics Challenge Osaka 2024

News date

After winning the championship in the Hong Kong division, three students from the Primary Division were invited to participate in the International Final Competition of the Universal Robotics Challenge in Osaka.

6th Graders Tang On Yu and Cyrus Ng Tze Lok and Milton Lam Chun Wai from Grade 5 developed a solution to one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Targeting SDG 3 - Good Health and Well-Being, our students created a model “SMART Chair” which can both monitor the sitting time of the user, and also provide guidance on stretching  exercises.

Our A-School STEAMers showcased their solution to judges from different countries, and discussed feedback on possible future improvements.

Meanwhile, they visited STEAMers’ booths from Austria, Japan and Malaysia, exchanging ideas and sharing technical skills.

After the competition, they started another project in Osaka. For their research into the “Osaka Metro”, our students studied different models of trains running in the system, and took photos for their records. They are longing for there to be a PBL topic on the Metro system later this year.
