πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦πŸ”Parent-Child Stargazing Event: Astronomical Wonder – The Six-Planet Alignment πŸŒŸπŸŒ™ 🌍

News date

Our latest parent-child stargazing event took place on the night before Lunar New Year’s Eve, during the Six-Planet Alignment. This eagerly anticipated celestial spectacle is a rare phenomenon in astronomy, where six planets in the solar system appear to align in a straight line from the perspective of Earth.

This stargazing event – held at both the fourth-floor Roman Plaza and the sixth-floor Sky Garden – was meticulously planned by Mr. Steve Chan, Mr. Kan Chan, Mr. Conrad Tang, and Dr. Ron Wong. 160 primary students and their parents, along with 40 secondary students, took part. 35 binoculars and 7 professional telescopes of varying apertures were prepared, allowing everyone to view deep-sky objects, such as the Pleiades star cluster (M45) and the Orion Nebula (M42), prominent winter constellations and bright stars, and different magnifications of planets like Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, Uranus, Neptune and Mars.

A group of enthusiastic and responsible students were trained to serve as junior astronomy guides. Chan Wing Sum (G4), Lee Kin Lok Edgar (G5), and Mai Lei Ho Leo and Ng Chung Him (G6) learnt how to operate astronomical instruments and taught other students and parents the basic techniques and etiquette for observing celestial bodies. Everyone got to experience the joy of looking up at the stars together, exploring the mysteries of the universe, and inspiring the next generation's love for science!
